The story focuses on the travels of people called exorcists. Black clergymen who destroy demons known as akuma. Allen Walker is the main character of this story. A 15-year-old kid who was abandoned as a child because of his strange left arm. Exorcists also have another job besides destroying akuma and that is to search for a mysterious substance called Innocence. Innocence powerful pieces of a heavenly cube that were washed away to different parts of the world during noahs flood many years ago. These pieces cause supernatural phenomena without their accomadator. each piece of innocence is only capable of becoming an Anti-Akuma weapon when being wielded a a specific person who is the only one compatible with that innocence in the entire world, thus an exorcist is born.
There are two main types of anti-akuma weapons ; parasatic and equipment. Parasatic is when the exorcist uses a part of his body as the weapon itself (eg. allen's arm). Equipment type is simply when the innocenc is fashioned into a weapon the user can put on or carry (eg. kanda's sword or Lenalee's boots). Aside from this exorcists are fighting the war of god against the earl of millenium and the noah clan{exorcists are known as apostles of god}. The millenium earl is the maker of akuma and intends to use them to destroy the world (as most evil types do).
